First Person Dies Under New Suicide Law

OLYMPIA, Wash. (May 22) – A 66-year-old woman with terminal cancer has become the first person to die under Washington state’s new assisted suicide law, an advocacy group said Friday.
Linda Fleming, of Sequim, died Thursday night after taking drugs prescribed under the “Death with Dignity” law that took effect in March, said Compassion & Choices of Washington.
The organization says Fleming was diagnosed last month with advanced pancreatic cancer. She would have had to have been diagnosed by two doctors as terminal in order to qualify for assisted suicide.
Officials with the advocacy group said Fleming died at home with her family, her dog and her physician at her bedside.
“The pain became unbearable, and it was only going to get worse,” Fleming said in a statement released by the organization.
A physician prescribed the drugs, but patients in assisted suicides must administer the drugs themselves.
The new law was approved in November with nearly 60 percent of the vote. It is based on a 1997 Oregon measure, under which about 400 people have ended their lives.
Under both states’ laws, physicians and pharmacists are not required to write or fill lethal prescriptions if they are opposed to the law. Some hospitals have opted out of the law, which precludes their doctors from participating on hospital property.
In Washington, any patient requesting fatal medication must be at least 18, declared competent and be a state resident.
Two doctors would have to certify that the patient has a terminal condition and six months or less to live. The patient must also make two oral requests, 15 days apart, and make a written request witnessed by two people.

This actually made my day. It’s nice to see people are using their heads.

Compulsory Ski Helmets

Friday, March 20th, 2009

With the recent and unfortunate death of Natasha Richardson, people are debating making ski helmets mandatory.  This sounds a lot like when many places made wearing bike helmets the law.

There isn’t a person alive that will say wearing helmets is bad, but like I say in all my posts..LET THE PERSON HAVE THAT CHOICE!!  Stop trying to protect everyone. If I break my head open because I didn’t have a helmet on, then that’s my fault. I knew the risk I was taking and have to suffer the consequences.

I understand making everyone under 16 wear a helmet. I’m pro that, because people under 16 don’t recognize the risks.

Julian Griffiths of the British Association of Snowsports Instructors says, ” It’s highly unlikely that it will be made compulsory for everyone to wear a helmet as serious head injuries are relatively rare”

How to end the War on Drugs

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Not many people would debate the statement that the war on drugs in the U.S. is a complete bust. Fortunately for everyone, I am here with a solution.

Decriminalize and tax them.

I’ll give you a scenario. A guy gets busted for smoking pot on his porch. The cop should toss out his joint and write him a $75 dollar ticket. There are actually a few towns that now do this..sooooo smart!!

This would eliminate all the court dates, paperwork, criminal records and in some cases, over-flowing jails full of non- violent people.

Each drug and amount would have a different fine and in each case, the drugs would get confiscated- getting them off the street.

The government would make sooo much money!

Banning tanning beds

Friday, December 12th, 2008

A group in Georgia wants to ban tanning beds because young people can get skin cancer and don’t know any better.

AWWWW!!! That’s so sweet of you! You want to look out for all the people who you don’t know!!

You already have to be 18, so I’m assuming (I couldn’t find an age) that they want to raise the age you can go to a tanning bed. You’ll be able to smoke, vote and go to war, but not get your skin a lovely brown.

If you haven’t caught on to the theme of my articles, you should catch on now.  A majority of them will laugh at people who think they have some right to tell you how to live your life.

I say, “Do what ever you want as so long it doesn’t hurt anyone else”

Assisted Suicide

Friday, December 12th, 2008

I came across this issue a year ago. I read that Switzerland will assist terminally ill patients in dying.  They have you undergo a psychiatric evaluation etc. and once you are deemed mentally fit, they provide you with drugs that kill you painlessly. A British TV show aired this and people freaked out.

I was reading all the comments about this…which pissed me off. I was so mad that I had to post.

People were saying how wrong this is yada yada..

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!

This service is for terminally ill patients who are most likely in tremendous pain. They are mentally stable and have settled their estates in preparation.  Who are you to say that someone else can’t take their own life!!?  Oh I forget, these are the same assholes that stand out side abortion clinics and yell at young girls who are making a choice to protect their bodies and futures.

I for one am for suicide booths. You walk in, it kills you and then your body falls through the floor and is discarded. There are so many suffering, diseased people that honestly want to die.  Its just difficult to do it yourself because our bodies won’t let us.

Self Euthanasia will never be allowed in the states for two reasons-

1. All these damn bible thumping Christians and

2. All the money is in keeping you alive!
